Whole House Water Filter Test Results in Dianella – Before & After Installation

Introduction

Many homeowners ask whether a whole house water filtration system actually makes a noticeable difference. To help answer that question, we carried out before-and-after water quality testing during a recent whole house water filter installation in Dianella, Western Australia.

Using a 12-in-1 water quality test kit, we measured several key water quality indicators immediately before and after installing a Vortex Pro 3 Whole House Water Filtration System with the Advanced Filter Package.

The results showed significant improvements while maintaining full household water pressure.

Before & After Water Test Results

Water Quality Parameter Before Installation After Installation Result
Water Pressure 480 kPa 480 kPa ✔ Maintained
Total Hardness 250 ppm 50 ppm ✔ Approximately 80% reduction
Free Chlorine 1 ppm 0 ppm ✔ Removed
Total Chlorine 2 ppm 0 ppm ✔ Removed
Calcium 75 ppm 25 ppm ✔ Reduced
Total Alkalinity 120 ppm 40 ppm ✔ Reduced
pH 6.5 7.0 ✔ Improved towards neutral
Iron 0 ppm 0 ppm No change
Copper 0 ppm 0 ppm No change
Nitrate 0 ppm 0 ppm No change
Nitrite 0 ppm 0 ppm No change
Carbonate 80 ppm 80 ppm No change

What These Results Mean

Water pressure stayed exactly the same

One of the biggest concerns homeowners have is whether installing a whole house water filter will reduce water pressure.

In this installation, the home's water pressure measured 480 kPa before installation and 480 kPa after installation, demonstrating that the correctly sized filtration system maintained normal household flow.

Chlorine was removed

Before installation, both free chlorine and total chlorine were detected in the incoming mains water.

After installation:

  • Free chlorine reduced from 1 ppm to 0 ppm
  • Total chlorine reduced from 2 ppm to 0 ppm

This can improve the taste and smell of drinking water while reducing chlorine exposure throughout the home.

Water hardness was significantly reduced

Water hardness dropped from 250 ppm to 50 ppm, representing an approximate 80% reduction.

Reducing hardness can help minimise mineral scale build-up on taps, shower screens, kettles, hot water systems and household appliances.

Reduced calcium and alkalinity

Testing also showed:

  • Calcium reduced from 75 ppm to 25 ppm
  • Total alkalinity reduced from 120 ppm to 40 ppm

Lower mineral content may help reduce scale deposits over time and support cleaner fixtures.

Improved pH balance

The home's pH improved from 6.5 to 7.0, moving closer to a neutral level.

Installation Details

Location: Dianella, WA

System Installed:

  • Vortex Pro 3 Whole House Water Filtration System
  • Advanced Filter Package

Testing was carried out immediately before and after installation using the same field testing equipment.

Overall Results

Following installation we recorded:

  • ✔ Household water pressure maintained at 480 kPa
  • ✔ Approximately 80% reduction in water hardness
  • ✔ No detectable chlorine after filtration
  • ✔ Reduced calcium levels
  • ✔ Reduced alkalinity
  • ✔ pH improved towards neutral

These results demonstrate that a professionally installed whole house water filtration system can significantly improve several aspects of household water quality while maintaining normal water pressure.

Results were obtained using a field 12-in-1 water test kit immediately before and after installation. They indicate water quality at the time of testing only and are not a certified laboratory analysis. Water quality may vary over time due to changes in the incoming mains water supply, seasonal conditions, filter age and normal household usage.
