Signs Your Continuous Flow Hot Water System Needs Servicing

Introduction

Continuous flow hot water systems are known for their reliability, but like any gas appliance, they require periodic servicing to keep them operating safely and efficiently.

We recently serviced a Bosch 10P continuous flow hot water system in Inglewood that had developed an ignition issue. The unit was struggling to fire when a hot water tap was opened, making it unreliable for the homeowner.

Common Signs Your Continuous Flow Hot Water System Needs Servicing

1. The Unit Struggles to Ignite

One of the most common signs is when the unit doesn't ignite straight away after opening a hot water tap.

You may notice:

  • Delayed hot water.
  • The burner attempts to ignite several times.
  • The unit only works intermittently.
  • No hot water at all.

2. Worn Diaphragm

During our inspection, we found the water diaphragm had worn over time.

The diaphragm is an important internal component that responds to water flow and helps activate the gas valve. As it ages, it can lose flexibility, preventing the unit from operating correctly.

In this case, we replaced the diaphragm and tested the system to ensure reliable operation.

3. Other Signs Your Continuous Flow System May Need Servicing

  • Inconsistent water temperature.
  • Reduced hot water flow.
  • Unit shuts down unexpectedly.
  • Error codes displayed.
  • Water leaks.
  • Strange noises during operation.
  • Visible corrosion or wear.

Why Regular Servicing Matters

Regular servicing can help:

  • Improve reliability.
  • Identify worn components before they fail.
  • Maintain safe operation.
  • Extend the life of the hot water system.
  • Reduce the likelihood of unexpected breakdowns.
